Aries New Moon Mandala
I AM with you…always

As I’ve been sharing, it looks to me that there will be some challenge to this year. There are just things I look for on certain days…the Aries New Moon, which is also the beginning of the astrological year, is one of them. On the day of any Aries new moon one might expect to see a bright, full sun.   And yet, the headstrong, “full on” power of Aries was nowhere to be found. The sun that morning looked more like the moon. The light was so soft and gentle as it peered out through the clouds almost as if the Pisces moon wanted to linger a while longer…

As we neared the full moon, I was out on my morning walk and up in the sky was an X so large it stopped me in my tracks! It could not be missed!

Did it mean, “X marks the spot?” Or a promise, like “Cross my heart and hope to die?” Or a number, the Roman numeral 10?  Later that same day, this X marked the sky:

Softer, one line white, the other dark, and I became even more curious about what this meant.

For those who may be new, Sandra “Sunny” Mosley creates a new mandala at each new moon at zodiacarts.com. I then color it and reflect on the cycle and share that here. Join the fun!  http://zodiacarts.com/elements/mandalas/color-a-mandala/

This lovely start to the year is comprised of three numbers and four shapes:

5 interlocking Hearts (which also creates the 10 pointed star at the center)

Five, from What’s Your Sign (WYS):
“The spiritual meaning of number Five deals with travel, adventure, and motion. With the highs that come with these attributes, Fives also carry instability and unpredictability, and radical changes. The spiritual meaning of Five draws our attention to the wonder of life, and beckons us to appreciate the perception of chaos all around us. Five has wild vibrations: primitive and erratic. When Five continues to pop up in your life be prepared for some action, like a trip. Remember, trips aren’t all necessarily taken physically. Some of the best journey’s are taken in the mind and spirit.”

Common Heart meanings:
Love, Unity, Sacred, Cohesion, Sensuality, Femininity, Attraction, Mirroring/Reflection, WYS

The 10-Pointed Star, or decagram, at the center, created by the interlocking hearts, and can be formed by two overlapping pentagrams. This can reflect the union of opposites. ~about.com  I thought this was interesting in light of my X’s.

12 arches – a nod to last cycle’s eggs perhaps as they open and transition revealing the treasure within.
Twelve: That which is completed, whole. It’s all there. There is nothing left out or missing.

3 soft-cornered squares,
Here 3 squares x 4 corners each = 12.  In this fashion 12 can symbolize the manifestation of the divine to the four corners of the earth
Squares: Basics, Balance, Grounding, Structure, Foundation, Community, Elemental, Integrity, Pragmatic, Direction, Stabilizing, Dependability, (WYS) The soft corners, however feel less foundational… less pragmatic…less structured…  maybe more in the feeling of directional, community, and balance.

3 Circles

Three:
“The spiritual meaning of number Three deals with magic, intuition, fecundity, and advantage. The number Three invokes expression, versatility, and pure joy of creativity. Three is also a time identifier as it represents Past, Present and Future. Consecutive Threes in your life may symbolize the need to express yourself creatively, or consider your present directional path in relation to past events and future goals. Three may also represent promising new adventures, and assurance of cooperation from others whom you may require help. Three typically symbolizes reward and success in most undertakings.” WYS

Circles:
The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement, God (‘God is a circle whose center is everywhere and Whose circumference is nowhere’ (Hermes Trismegistus)). ~umich.edu. symbols

There is a surprising softness to this mandala. As mentioned above, the eggs from last cycle seem to move out of the picture to reveal what is being birthed at this most important time. These arching eggs create 12 gateways…not quite mandorlas, but gateways none-the-less, where anything is truly possible. Even the squares from last cycle (minus one) are softer and gentler. There is a “go with the flow” feeling to this and a message that binds and heals all that we are, the darkness and the light.  Even though change and uncertainty are “in the air”  the radiance of Love is most evident. And if I may play with the word a bit…You need not worry, for I Am is now-here.

The Month

This has certainly been a challenging start to this new year.   Each week of this cycle has had its challenges and the call of my Words for the Year kept ringing… “Can you be joyful, or at least not add to the chaos?” and “How can you create the Luscious-ness your spirit desires for you?”

The weather has been quite cool and everything has been gently unfolding – SO unlike the “two week spring” that typically EXPLODES here! Lol… Budding trees are my favorite to watch this spring, as they flower, seed and leaf ever so gracefully. There is something about the coolness and the newness – so delightfully refreshing! Even the wee ones, as they are paraded through my back yard or the park by proud honking parents, spark delight and are a welcome distraction as well.

I was blessed to have been helping a friend with a beta test of an online retreat experience she’s working on during this cycle as well. Each week I had needed the “medicine” that each spiritual practice invited. SO TIMELY! One week a sick dog, the next an unusually full schedule (4 funerals in one week), the third week, the untimely and tragic passing of my daughter’s 18 year old childhood friend. I wish I could say it stopped there… challenging indeed. Each practice had been a lovely help in time of need. I felt as if I were building up a spiritual toolbox. (I’ll be sure to let you know when she rolls out this lovely experience!)

There has been great healing during this cycle as well. During one of the exercises in the beta experience, I came to realize that I was operating out of and living my life through the expectations of someone I don’t even know and had met briefly after a performance I gave in High School. It was so healing to realize that sometimes dream seeds are planted in us by others – dreams that don’t necessarily belong to us but are rather the vision of someone else. To identify that and let that go after all these years was such a blessing.

Dreams played an important role this cycle as well…from “playing” because my daily life was heavier than usual (such a silly dream it was too!) to a profound healing.  I have never dreamt of Jesus before, but wow, what a dream!

As I reflect on this cycle there is a Bible passage that resonates:

“For I know the plans I have in mind for you…plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope. When you call Me, and come and pray to Me, I will listen to you. When you look for Me, you will find Me.
Yes, when you seek Me with all your heart, I will let you find Me…
and I will change your lot.”
~Jeremiah, 29:11-14a RNAB

Each trial this cycle was met by grace; each challenge met by balm; and each grief was met by healing, and each fear was met by the challenge to grow and live that Luscious Life my spirit desires for me. The plan certainly was not mine. No one would wish for it. And truly we cannot know for certain what the year holds, but through the experiences of this cycle I walk forward more than ever before in faith and trust, knowing that what is needed will be given in its appointed time, knowing that I AM holds the plan.

The X in the sky then for me was about balancing the darkness and light within which occurred in the healing I received this cycle and also represents a promise… a cross My heart and hope to die promise:

“And behold, I am with you always…”
~Matthew 28:20
