Highlights of this Solar Eclipse:

This is a total Solar Eclipse visible from the South Pacific, South America, and the South Atlantic.

The Sun that gives us life and lights our path is joined briefly with the dark and mysterious qualities of the Moon. The Moon blocks the light of the Sun. In this moment of perceived darkness, spirituality and the psyche combine anew, beginning another cycle in the spiral of our personal development.

This solar eclipse takes place with the Sun and Moon at 23 degrees and 18 minutes of Sagittarius. The last time there was a solar eclipse close to this degree was in 2001. Think back to the personal themes in your life during the winter of 2001 and review the progress of your personal growth over the last 19 years.

Solar eclipses signify endings and beginnings and usually manifest as events in the outer world. At solar eclipses we: change, mature, take on greater challenges, travel at a faster pace, feel restless, feel pressured by deadlines and a buildup of emotions, experience a crisis and feel excited.

This is a south nodal eclipse, suggesting that we are being called to use previously learned skills and talents in new ways and that the opportunities to do so will come through others. South nodal eclipses are other-oriented and often symbolize a spouse or significant other, relationships and new perspectives based on interaction with others.

Highlights of the New Moon at 23º Sagittarius 08′:

This Sagittarius lunation cycle begins with a surge of mental energy (Mercury trine Mars) and high expectations for getting at the truth (Sun & Moon semi-sextile Pluto). Although a positive outcome is promised (Venus sextile Jupiter & Saturn), reconciling fantastical ideologies is challenging (Neptune square the Lunar Nodes). New avenues of communication must be found while traditional ways myst be released (Mercury conjunct the South Node).

Advice for this cycle:

Apply the knowledge gained from going deep during the last cycle to seek a better understanding of yourself. There is always more to know. Explore your self-identity, self-expression, and your current state of self-realization. Sagittarius correlates to Strength on the Medicine Wheel. Strength is the ability to firmly maintain a position. There is a lot of energy this cycle aimed at achievement of dreams. The challenge is to handle frustration and impatience in ways that do not impair your health or risk your well-being. Burn excess energy with vigorous exercise. Firing up your body will spark your motivation to act. The passion and persistence available to you now are best expressed through compassionate action or your personal creative expression. Build your strength by exercising your thigh muscles, eating a diet to support your liver function, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

Questions you might explore for personal insight include:

  • What are your long-range plans?
  • Who or what has influenced your belief system, inspired you, or mentored you?
  • How do you motivate and inspire others?
  • When do you feel most adventurous?
  • What does self-realization mean to you?
  • What subject would you choose to study or what country would you visit if there were no obstacles?
  • Where and with whom would life be easier if you were a little less self-righteous or a little more restrained?

Make lists of the people who nourished and supported you during the last year, during your adulthood, and during your childhood. What specific aspect of each of them are you most grateful?

Affirm: Self-awareness is my strength.
