Cancer Lunation Cycle,  July 12 – August 10, 2018:

Cancer, the fourth sign of the zodiac, is a cardinal water sign and is ruled by the Moon. It is a holistic or feminine sign, containing both the father and mother principles of protector, provider, nurturer and supporter. It is associated with one’s early childhood development, home, family, and heritage. Issues involving home, food, motherhood, the public, tribe and family become accentuated during this cycle.

During the Cancer 29.6-day lunation cycle there is an emphasis on rhythmic cycles, memory, intuition, and an inspired imagination. The Cancer cycle teaches initiative in addition to sensitivity. It’s about how you make changes, how you join the flow of life, how you move and grow into the world.

This is the cycle for setting your house in order, literally and figuratively. It is a good cycle to attend to your home by making needed repairs or refreshing a room’s decor. The same goes for attending to family situations or the settling end-of-life plans, such as preparing a will or arranging for long-term care. Personal security issues must be resolved before moving on and it is time to move on by stepping out on your own.

The cycle begins on a sobering and intense note, stimulating the need to find safe refuge.  The Sabian position of the Eclipse puts the emphasis on the individual or “star” of a collective effort and asks the deeper question… What is success worth?  The position of Pluto suggests a transformative breakthrough is possible via a dynamic interchange between competing groups of individuals. Be a receptive and reflective observer.

We recommend dedicating this cycle to understanding the power and purpose of your emotions day by day. Pay attention to your feelings. Note how they ebb and flow throughout the month and how they affect the way you move through life, especially when the world is experiencing discord. With the focus on emotions, you have the opportunity to assess your feelings from a new perspective, especially as they relate to your home,  family, and heritage. This is a Solar Eclipse, a powerful portal for new beginnings.

Get inspired: go on a house & garden tour, take up watercolors, enroll in a cooking class, explore your family tree. The best use of your energy this cycle is to take the actions necessary to develop your personal creative flow. Follow your intuition and express your feelings with artistry. Stay on course by exercising your will power. You can be controlled by your emotions or you can be empowered by them. Make good use of the compulsive and creative energy of this cycle to develop a deeper understanding of what it takes for you to feel safe and secure.

Meditate on the phrase “I Feel”. Reflect on your past conditioning and imagine ways to break through restrictive bonds. This is a time to prune for growth. Detach from negative feelings and activities. Buried emotions from the past can be reexamined and released. Call on your inner caregiver to help nurture your growth. Nourish your priorities by fueling your intentions with growth, trust and love.

Relieve tension with physical exercise, especially swimming. Water therapies like Watsu reduce stress while healing neuromuscular injuries. Scents like gardenia and honeysuckle are calming and refreshing. Staying hydrated is imperative, as well as nurturing the body with healthy foods and plenty of sleep.

The last Full Moon phase (June 27 – 30) brought an awareness of your needs for security and the importance of honoring your feelings.

Questions to ask yourself for additional insight:

  • What are your feelings about your home, your family history, your nationality?
  • Are your feelings supporting your personal growth?
  • What hunger gets triggered by your emotions?
  • When does it happen?
  • How do you feed it?
  • What or who puts you into protective mode?
  • Where and with whom do you feel most nurtured?
  • When and with whom do you feel most nurturing?
  • Where and with whom would life be easier if you were more receptive, reflective, and responsive?

There is a big shift of energy during last half of this cycle as Mercury goes retrograde two days before the Full Moon (Moon at 4° Aquarius 45″, Sun at 4° Leo 45″), which is also is a Lunar Eclipse. The Full phase, July 26 – 30, will provide the awareness necessary to determine what you will be addressing during the next lunation cycle that begins on August 10 with the Leo New Moon, also a Solar Eclipse. Yes, you read it right! This will be the second Solar Eclipse this summer.
