New Phase Jan 12 – 17, 2021
The energy of the New phase relates to sight: inner and outer. Since the whole picture cannot be seen, it can be a time of vulnerability and doubt. The function of this phase is to become aware of the intention; later there will be opportunities to revise and reorient.
A visionary action is necessary during the New phase. This is the time to form your intent; see it first with your inner vision and then create a visual representation of it that can be viewed throughout the cycle.

Visual Support
One of my practices at the New Moon is to assemble an altar on the top of a bookcase in my studio. Every time I walk past it, I have a visual reminder of the qualities of the cycle and the support offered by it.
My Altar for this cycle features a post card of the cover photo for the 2021 Lunar Calendar centered underneath said calendar. The Crow has been nuzzling its way into my awareness for some time and much more so over the course of the last week.
The two heads on the right remind me to balance my masculine and feminine energy while looking at the last year to determine what to leave behind and what to take with me into the future.
The angels on the left signify blessings of Grace and Loving Kindness, sitting alongside the Light; promoting a sense of calm. Three standing clear Quartz crystals, a smokey Quartz wand, a Citrine point, and a piece of raw Amber work together to build beautiful and long-lasting foundations.
When I stand in front of this and breathe, I stand in my power and give meaning to my work.
Mandala Support
A Mandala is a powerful meditation device for focusing sacred intentions. I encourage you to create your own mandala. I created this mixed media collage in a workshop on January 11th given by April Miller McMurtry of The Moon Is My Calendar.
I create a mandala every month using the geometric patterns I find prominent in the chart for the New Moon. I print it out and color it as an abstract way to feel myself into the cycle. I invite you to do the same.
