This phase and the 4th Teaching in the RELATE practice is about Love and creativity. The last three days we have been celebrating love with our house guests who are here celebrating their wedding anniversary. I thought about what it is to be love. I chuckle at how I am reminded to Be Love whenever I leave home.
My contemplation led me to a more clear understanding of what it means to Be Love. To Be Love is to Be Connected! When I am centered with the sense that I’m connected to something greater than myself, I experience Love as divinity, it is the All That Is and to honor the divine is to love everything, myself included.
When I start to neglect myself, in any way, it is a sign that I’ve temporarily lost my connection.
Being connected 24/7 is a dedicated practice that is a challenge for me to maintain.

The 5th Teaching in the RELATE practice is about Honesty.
Honestly, today I have professional and personal responsibilities, like a post to write, laundry to wash, and loved ones to contact. My practice today was shortened to an early morning communion with the morning Sun and breeze that filled the room with light and sound.

I brought Crow into my practice ten days ago as an image of respect and now Crow or Raven shows up in my contemplation practice with Honesty. The question is, am I being honest with my practice? I want more crows and skulls and skeletons but I resist adding them. I see the words for the seven sacred teachings going on or into the painting but how I want them to appear is vague.

Yesterday I added Death, the skulls and skeletons. What do they stand for? The symbolism of Scorpio. Could it be my fear of death? Last month was certainly all about my imminent risk of dying from another stroke. Is that my dishonesty – that I tell myself I am not afraid, when I really am?
Everything dies! It’s only a matter of time. Except perhaps, the earth. Or at least not yet.
I left paper on the sides of the death card when I glued it on. Last night I started seeing the sides as strips with the names of the people in the prayer painting. Maybe I can print the painting onto a greeting card and send the strip with their name along with a note that they are loved. Or maybe I can make the painting interactive by writing a note on the strips and encouraging viewers to tear off a prayer, to keep or to give away.

On this day of TRUTH, I see a lot of death in my collage.
Sometimes I hide from my Truth because I don’t know how to live it Honestly, with Respect, Courage, Love, and Wisdom.
Is fear of death, the truth I hide from myself? Is the fear of death a prayer for renewal? Is making peace with death giving up on life?
It is a prayer for transformation, renewal, and gratitude. A prayer for life. A prayer for death. A prayer for a peace.

#20 Judgement in the Tarot (associated with Pluto, ruler of Scorpio) renamed Discernment by Carol Bridges in the Medicine Woman Tarot, where she says it is an Initiation and likens it to ascension and understanding the the circle of life is clear. Her affirmation for it is: “Through time, the great circle returns all things to their maker.”
Joanna Powell Colbert, artist author of the Gaian Tarot calls this card Awakening. The imagery of people holding hands and standing in a circle speaks to me, as do her words, “His communities encircle him, between the earth and heavens, creating sacred space where all things are possible. Magic happens, the earth is healed and so are we.” Her affirmation for this card is: “I awaken to the call of Spirit.”

The last sacred word in the RELATE practice is Humility. It is accompanied by Wolf, representing the unleashing of one’s vocal gifts. My question… Is that like finding one’s voice?
Is Humility as simple as realizing you don’t know everything?

Feeling inspired and excited to wrap up this practice. Finish this painting so I can move on to the next creative project. There are so many. Thinking about how I can honor Buz Myers and his work. I’d like to use the Sagittarius cycle to create several small detail prints from the larger piece to send to those named in the prayer.

Finished it and hung it on the wall yesterday. I love this piece. I feel like the mom who sees her baby as the most beautiful baby in the world, regardless of how others see it. It is a work of love.
I’m already missing my contemplative practice of sitting with it every morning.
2016 Scorpio Prayer Piece: a homage to the RELATE experience with Hali Karla. Every day I’d follow the contemplation practice and add my prayers to it. It became a living prayer of love and gratitude. One that is extremely personal and at the same time universal. I realized it was a “piece” rather than a collage when I added the tear- offs.
