The Sun

Solar Facts

“The Sun is the center of the Solar System and the source of all life and energy here on Earth. It accounts for more than 99.86% of the mass of the Solar System and it’s gravity dominates all the planets and objects that orbit it. Since the beginning of history, human beings have understood the Sun’s importance to our world, it’s seasons, the diurnal cycle, and the life-cycle of plants. ” ~ The Universe Today

“The enormous effect of the Sun on the Earth has been recognized since prehistoric times, and the Sun has been regarded by some cultures as a deity. Earth’s movement around the Sun is the basis of the solar calendar, which is the predominant calendar in use today.” ~ Wikipedia

Solar Cycles

There are various solar cycles including, the Gregorian solar cycle beginning on January 1, the astrological solar or seasonal cycle beginning with the sun’s ingress to the Zodiac sign of Aries every March twenty-first or twenty-second, and the personal year, called the solar return year, which begins with the sun’s return to the degree and minute of one’s birth. The sun even has its own cycles of sunspot activity every eleven and twenty-two years.
